Hurricane Ike

There are so many things that have happened to so many people because of this awful storm. It destroyed Galveston and the surrounding areas. It is terrible to think that nature can create such damaging things. Anyways..my main point of this was to talk about something that I read off of the blog site http://gritsforbreakfast.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default . The blog talked about all the jails that were not evacuated and how some of them just let people with non-violent offenses out before the storm. I think that was the best choice. We are holding our jails up with these non-violent offenders and making no room for the ones who are hardened criminals. Another thing that struck me as so wrong was how the prisoners in Galveston were not evacuated, and as of Thursday morning at 10 a.m., had no running water, working toilets, or electricity. That is just crazy to expect all these people to be without running water and electricity stuck in this hell-hole of a building. It is just crazy to me that they were not moved prior to the storm. How can people just abandon these prisoners in the wake of such a terrible storm? How can people not care enough about moving the prisoners to a safer place? It all boggles my mind but what am I going to do about it. The only thing I can do is sit back and watch it happen and hope that not everyone is so cold hearted.
